Born in Irvine, California in 1969, Zan spent his early years in both the United States and the Philippines, where his father’s family resided. In 1983, his family relocated to New Jersey, his mother’s home state. At 18, Zan began what would become a 37-year career with United Parcel Service (UPS) in Lawnside, New Jersey. After seven years in operations and human resources, he was promoted and transferred to Philadelphia, where he continued to advance through various management roles. His career later took him to West Chester, Pennsylvania, where he transitioned into Industrial Engineering, and then back to Philadelphia as a Business Manager.

In 2011, Zan and his wife, Ann, moved back to California to be closer to their son, Blake, who had been transferred to La Jolla. Zan continued his management career with UPS in Los Angeles, later serving in San Bernardino, Temecula, and finally as Business Manager of the Carlsbad Center, overseeing operations in Carlsbad, Vista, Oceanside, and Camp Pendleton. In this role, he was responsible for managing 135 employees. Throughout his UPS career, Zan developed expertise in logistics, efficiency, finance, conflict resolution, and leadership, while also serving on numerous committees, including extensive work with United Way.

After retiring from UPS in May 2024, Zan and Ann settled in Pauma Valley, where they have lived since 2022. He joined the Pauma Valley Community Services District Board of Directors out of a deep appreciation for his community and a desire to contribute his professional experience toward supporting the District’s mission and future growth.
